About

Karen Schumacher has worked as a machine knitter, textile restorer, education coordinator, and milliner.

She accidentally went to fashion school at some point too and somehow ended up in the American Southwest after that. The reasons for these decisions are unclear. Even to her.

Currently her preferences of mediums include hand-knitting, assemblage, and gumball machines.

Karen lives in Bisbee, Arizona where she manages a custom hat shop, makes things in her studio in the bell tower of a 120-year-old historic building, and endlessly explores what the word “community” means.

Life could be a lot worse. Seriously.
